توجه أكثر من 200 مليون إندونيسي إلى صناديق الاقتراع، اليوم الأربعاء، لاختيار حكامهم والنواب المحليين في تصويت من شأنه أن يساعد الرئيس الجديد برابوو سوبيانتو على تعزيز سلطته.
وبعد تسعة أشهر من انتخاب برابوو رئيسا، يتعين على الإندونيسيين انتخاب 37 حاكما و93 عمدة وأكثر من 400 نائب محلي.
وذكرت صحيفة "لاكروا" الفرنسية أن نحو 823 ألف مركز اقتراع فتح أبوابه من الساعة 7:00 صباحا حتى 1:00 بعد الظهر بالتوقيت المحلي عبر الأرخبيل الضخم الذي يمتد على ثلاث مناطق زمنية، في يوم أعلن عطلة رسمية، وكان أول الناخبين الذين تمكنوا من التصويت موجودين في بابوا.
وقال مادي سوبرياتما، الباحث في العلوم السياسية في معهد دراسات جنوب شرق آسيا-يوسف إسحاق في سنغافورة "هذه الانتخابات الإقليمية مهمة للغاية بالنسبة لحكومة برابوو سوبيانتو لأنه يحتاج إلى الدعم على المستوى الإقليمي لضمان عمل حكومته بفعالية".
وقال فيرمان نور، الباحث السياسي في الوكالة الوطنية للبحث والابتكار، إن المرشحين الداعمين لبرابو سيكونون أكثر استجابة لتنفيذ أجندة الرئيس، بما في ذلك برنامج الوجبات المجانية الطموح والمكلف للأطفال والنساء الحوامل الذي تم التعهد به خلال الحملة الرئاسية.
والمقاطعة الوحيدة في إندونيسيا التي لا تشارك في الانتخابات المحلية هي مدينة يوجياكارتا لأن العاصمة الثقافية للبلاد يقودها سلطان يشغل أيضًا منصب الحاكم.
