أنهى مستشفى سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، معاناة مراجع في العقد السادس من العمر، مع سلس البول والبراز، بتقنية حديثة تسمى "تحفيز العصب العجزي" Sacral Nerve Modulation، تستخدم لأول مرة بمستشفيات القطاع الخاص بالمنطقة الشرقية وحقق التدخل الطبي نجاحاً كبيراً، ووضع حداً للأعراض الحادة التي لازمت المراجع، وتبعاتها النفسية والإجتماعية، وأعاده لحياته الطبيعية.

وقالت د. سارة البقشي استشارية جراحة المسالك البولية، رئيسة الفريق الطبي المعالج، أن المراجع بدأت معاناته بعد حادثة تعرض فيها عموده الفقري لبعض الأضرار، وظلت هذه الأعراض خارج السيطرة، على الرغم من أنه خضع للكثير من العلاجات، ومؤخراً راجع مستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، وخضع لسلسة من الفحوصات الدقيقة، التي كشفت إصابته بالمثانة العصبية.

وقالت د. البقشي أن هذه التقنية تقوم على تحفيز العصب العجزي، باستخدام شريحة صغيره تُزرع داخل الجسم، و ترسل نبضات محفزه للأعصاب الموجود في منطقة أسفل الظهر، بهدف تحسين وظيفة بعض الأعضاء، مثل المثانة والأمعاء وعضلات الحوض، والعضلة العاصرة، وتعتبر الخيار الأنسب للحالات التي لا تستجيب لطرق العلاج الأخرى، وغالباً ما ينجح التحفيز العصبي في علاج أو الحد من المشاكل الصحية المتعلقة بالمثانة أو الأمعاء أو علاج المشكلتين معاً.
