Sudan rejects UN Mission’s report descrbing it as politicized

The Sudan government accused the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan of resorting to propaganda before presenting its report to the Human Rights Council as a way to realise political goals.

The Sudanese government has strongly rejected the report of the United Nations Fact-Finding Mission for Sudan labeling the Mission as political .

The Mission, established in October 2023 by the UN Human Rights Council, said in its first report on Friday that both warring parties in Sudan have committed appalling violations that may amount to war crimes calling for urgent deployment of an independent and impartial force to protect the civilians.

The Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the Mission has released its report and held a press conference about its findings before submitting it to the Human Rights Council’s 57th session, which is scheduled for 10th September.

The Ministry considered this move as a proof that the Mission is merely political lacking professionalism and independence.

The Ministry described the Mission recommendations as bypassing its mandate and aligning with stances of some international powers within the UN Security Council known for their hostile attitudes towards Sudan.

The statement accused the Mission of resorting to propaganda before the Human Rights Council deliberations with the aim of influencing the member states to realise specific political goals and extend mandate of the Mission.

The Ministry accused the Mission of adopting a contradictory stance because it has complained that the Rapid Support Forces have committed serious violations against civilians in Sudan, it still called for imposing an arms embargo on the Sudanese Armed Forces that work to protect those civilians against violations.
