قال الرئيس الأوكراني فولوديمير زيلينسكي، في كلمة بمناسبة يوم استقلال البلاد، إن أوكرانيا لن تسمح بتحويل أراضيها إلى منطقة عازلة، وذلك في إشارة واضحة إلى الغزو الروسي.
وأضاف زيلينسكي أن الأوكرانيين سيردون على المعتدي بشكل أكبر مما فعل، محذراً من أن الذين يسعون إلى إنشاء منطقة عازلة لأوكرانيا يجب أن يكونوا حذرين من أن تتحول بلدانهم إلى "اتحاد عازل".
ووفقاً للسلطات الأوكرانية، تم تسجيل خطاب زيلينسكي في المنطقة المحيطة بسومي في شمال شرقى أوكرانيا، والتي انطلقت منها الحملة الأوكرانية إلى منطقة كورسك.
وتجنباً لذكر اسم الرئيس الروسي فلاديمير بوتين، قال زيلينسكي: "الرجل العجوز المريض في الساحة الحمراء، الذي يهدد دائماً بزره الأحمر، لن يحدد لنا خطوطاً حمراء".

وجاء في المرسوم الذي نشر على الموقع الإلكتروني للرئاسة أن القائد العام أولكسندر سيرسكي (59 عاماً)، الذي كان يحمل رتبة كولونيل جنرال تمت ترقيته إلى رتبة جنرال.

وولد سيرسكي عام 1965 في منطقة فلاديمير الروسية، ويعيش في أوكرانيا منذ الثمانينيات، وتم تعيينه قائدا عاما للقوات المسلحة الأوكرانية في فبراير (شباط).
ويذكر أن أوكرانيا شنت هجوماً على منطقة كورسك الروسية في السادس من أغسطس (آب).
