أعلنت وزيرة الخارجية الأسترالية بيني وونغ، يوم الثلاثاء، أمام البرلمان الأسترالي، أن حكومتها ستبدأ باستخدام مصطلح "الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة بما فيها القدس الشرقية" في أدبياتها كافة، بالإضافة إلى اعتبار المستوطنات الإسرائيلية غير قانونية، حسب القانون الدولي.
ورحبت وزارة الخارجية والمغتربين، في بيان، بهذا التطور المهم في الموقف الأسترالي الملتزم بالقانون الدولي، وقرارات الأمم المتحدة، والداعم للجهود الدولية الرامية إلى إحياء عملية التسوية وفقًا لمرجعيات السلام الدولية، وفي مقدمتها مبدأ "حل الدولتين".
وأكدت أن دولة فلسطين ما زالت تنتظر من الحكومة الأسترالية أن تعمل على تنفيذ قرارات مؤتمر حزب العمال الحاكم، الذي طلب من حكومته الاعتراف بدولة فلسطين، دون تأخير أو تردد.
وأعربت عن أملها بسرعة اتخاذ هذا القرار انسجامًا مع القانون الدولي والشرعية الدولية، وبما يعكس ليس فقط موقف حزب العمال وأعضائه، وإنما الموقف العام للشعب الأسترالي، المؤيد لحقوق الشعب الفلسطيني العادلة والمشروعة، بما فيها حقه في تجسيد دولته على حدود عام 1967، بعاصمتها القدس.
