أجلت السلطات في البرتغال نحو 1400 شخص جراء حريق اندلع في جنوب البرتغال وأحرق آلاف الهكتارات من الأراضي.

وقالت السلطات إنه جرى إخلاء 19 قرية صغيرة و4 منتجعات سياحية وموقع للتخييم لإجراءات احترازية، كما جرى إغلاق العديد من الطرق.

شب حريق الغابات، الذي يواجهه أكثر من 800 رجل إطفاء، يوم السبت في بلدية أوديميرا بمنطقة ألنتيجو، لكنه ما زال ينتشر جنوبًا منذ ذلك الحين نحو منطقة الغرب، إحدى أبرز الوجهات السياحية في البرتغال.

وتزيد درجات الحرارة المرتفعة والرياح القوية من تعقيد الجهود المبذولة لمجابهة ألسنة اللهب التي قضت على نحو 6700 هكتار من الأراضي.

وقبيل غروب الشمس يوم الاثنين، تحولت السماء فوق أوديميرا إلى لون داكن بسبب كميات كبيرة من الدخان الناجم عن الحرائق الذي يملأ الهواء.

ووصف هيلدر جيريرو عمدة أوديميرا الوضع أمس الاثنين، بأنه "خطير وصعب ومعقد"، في حين قال كبير أفراد الحماية المدنية خوسيه ريبيرو إن هناك "عملًا كثيرًا يجب القيام به" للسيطرة على الحريق.
