نجح مستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، في إنقاذ حياة طفل "خديج " يبلغ من العمر يوم واحد، وُلد يعاني من عيب خلقي بالأمعاء، متمثلاً في وجود ثقب في الأمعاء أدى إلى تسرب السوائل داخل محيط البطن وتسمم شديد بالدم. ذكر ذلك الدكتور تركي العوفي استشاري طب وجراحة الأطفال وحديثي الولادة والأطفال الخدج وجراحة المناظير، رئيس الفريق الطبي المعالج.

وقال الدكتور العوفي بأن الفريق الطبي المعالج إتخذ القرار بسرعة التدخل الجراحي، وذلك للحيلولة دون إصابته بمزيد من المضاعفات الخطيرة المؤدية للوفاة -لا سمح الله-، إذ تم نقله إلى غرفة العمليات، وإخضاعه لعملية جراحية دقيقة استغرقت ساعتين ونصف تحت التخدير العام، وتم فيها تنظيف كامل البطن من السوائل والبراز، تبع ذلك استئصال الجزء المصاب من الأمعاء، ومن ثم إعادة توصيل الأمعاء ببعضها البعض، نقل بعدها إلى العناية الحثيثة للاطفال (NICU).
وقال الدكتور العوفي أن جهود الفريق الطبي تكللت بالنجاح ولله الحمد، إذ أوضحت المؤشرات الحيوية للطفل في اليوم الأول بعد العملية استقرار حالته الصحية وتحسن وضعه بشكل عام. وقد سمح الفريق الطبي المعالج إدخال السوائل المغذية والرضاعة لنظامه الغذائي وقد خرج من المستشفى بعد عدة أيام وهو بصحة جيدة، وبعد 8 أيام من المتابعة أصبح قادراً على الرضاعة والإخراج بصورة طبيعية ولله الحمد.
