نجح مستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، في إجراء عملية نوعية دقيقة، لإنهاء معاناة مريضة في العقد الرابع من عمرها، وذلك بإستئصال ورماً كبيراً (سرطانياً) نشأ في مكان عال الحساسية والخطورة بطول 6 فقرات بالعمود الفقري، مما تسبب في العديد من المضاعفات أبرزها عدم القدرة على المشي وأداء المهام اليومية. ذكر ذلك الدكتور حسام الحبيب استشاري جراحة العمود الفقري رئيس الفريق الطبي المعالج.

والذي أضاف أن المريضة حضرت للمستشفى على كرسي متحرك، حيث تم الإستماع إلى شكواها والإطلاع على تاريخها المرضي، وقد تبين أنها فقدت القدرة على المشي منذ عدة أشهر، نتيجة الضُعف الشديد في كامل الأطراف السفلية ، بالإضافة إلى مشاكل في المثانة، على الفور تم إخضاعها لفحوصات دقيقة بأشعة الرنين المغناطيسي (M.R.I) والتحاليل المخبرية، وقد كشفت النتائج عن نمو ورم كبير ملتصق وضاغط على الحبل الشوكيّ ومنتشر بين الأعصاب، بطول ستة فقرات بدأ من الفقرة الأولى القطنية وحتى الخامسة العجزية، وهو ما يفسر الأعراض التي لحقت بالمريضة وخاصة احتباس البول لديها نتيجة ضغط الورم على الأعصاب.
