قام مستشفى الدكتور سليمان الحبيب بالخبر، بتشغيل أحدث وحدة لعلاج حالات الصرع Epilepsy Monitoring Unit – EMU، مجهزة بأحدث التقنيات لتشخيص وتقييم وعلاج حالات الصرع بدقة عالية، ويعمل بها كفاءات طبية تتميز بالتأهيل العلمي العالي، والخبرة العملية النوعية.

"أكبر جسر بحري مزدوج" يربط صفوى برأس تنورةوقال د. محمد الشريم استشاري طب الأعصاب والصرع، أن الوحدة تقوم بالتشخيص الدقيق وتصنيف النوبات من خلال تسجيل النوبات "الليلية والنهارية" عبر تخطيط كهربية الدماغ بالفيديوVideo-EEG بشكل متواصل، لتمكين الأطباء من تحديد نوع وموقع النوبات بدقة، وهو أمر بالغ الأهمية للمرضى الذين يحتاجون للعلاج الجراحي. والتمييز بين النوبات الصرعية الحقيقية والاضطرابات الأخرى التي قد تشبهها "مثل النوبات غير الصرعية النفسية"، والتي تمثل حوالي من 20% إلى 30٪ من الحالات التي يتم تنويمها في وحدة مراقبة الصرع.
وتساعد الوحدة الأطباء أيضاً في تعديل وتحسين العلاج الدوائي، حيث تتيح لهم تقييم فعالية الأدوية التي يستخدمها المراجع، وإدخال تعديلات على الجرعات، أو أنواع الأدوية للعثور على التركيبة التي تحقق أفضل سيطرة على النوبات بأقل آثار جانبية. مضيفاً أن المراقبة في الوحدة أيضاً تُعد خطوة محورية لمرضى الصرع المقاوم للأدوية "الصرع المستعصي"، إذ يتم إجراء تقييم شامل لتحديد ما إذا كانت الحالة تحتاج إلى تدخل غير دوائي، وذلك من خلال تحديد المنطقة المسؤولة عن النوبات بدقة متناهية.
واستطرد د. الشريم قائلاً إن من الأدوار الهامة التي تقوم بها الوحدة هي مراقبة الحالات المعقدة والأمراض الوراثية والمناعية، والتي تساعد على تحديد أنماط معينة من التغيرات الدماغية المرتبطة ببعض الأمراض المناعية أو الوراثية التي قد تكون سبباً للصرع ووضع الخطط العلاجية الأكثر فعالية، مما يساهم في تحسين جودة حياة المرضى.
وأكد أن هذه الوحدة تعد الأولى من نوعها في مستشفيات القطاع الخاص، إذ أنها مزودة بأحدث الأجهزة ، ومن أهمها جهاز Cadwell لمراقبة موجات الدماغ، إضافة إلى وجود فريق طبي متخصص بالصرع وتخطيط الدماغ، ويشمل فريق من جراحة المخ والأعصاب، أخصائيين الفسيولوجيا العصبية وطاقم تمريض مدرب على التعامل مع التشنجات وفحص المريض أثناء النوبة وإعطاء الأدوية اللازمة، بالإضافة إلى فريق من الأطباء الاستشاريين المتخصصين في الصرع وتخطيط الدماغ، فضلاً عن اختصاصيين السلوك العصبي، ويدعم الوحدة أحدث أجهزة الرنين المغناطيسي، والطب النووي لعمل الأشعة النووية، مع وجود استشاريين متخصصين في الأشعة العصبية.
