دشن صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير سعود بن نايف بن عبدالعزيز أمير المنطقة الشرقية طريق (الظهران – العقير – سلوى)اليوم الاحد في مقر المشروع، الذي نفذته الهيئة العامة للطرق بتكلفة إجمالية بلغت 199 مليون ريال ، بطول 66 كم، مزدوج ومسارين لكل اتجاه، بالإضافة لتنفيذ تقاطع على طريق الهفوف – سلوى، يشمل جسرين، وتنفيذ 25 منشأة تصريف على كامل طول المشروع، وذلك بحضور معالي وزير النقل والخدمات اللوجستية رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة العامة للطرق المهندس صالح بن ناصر الجاسر، ومعالي الرئيس التنفيذي المكلف للهيئة العامة للطرق المهندس بدر بن عبدالله الدلامي، وعدد من قيادات القطاعات ذات العلاقة.

وأوضح معالي وزير النقل والخدمات اللوجستية "أن المشروع يهدف إلى تعزيز الترابط بين المدينة الصناعية بمحافظة الجبيل وعدد من المدن الصناعية والمنافذ الحدودية، كما يسهم المشروع في اختصار ساعة من زمن الرحلة للراغبين في الذهاب لدولتي قطر والإمارات العربية المتحدة الشقيقتين، بالإضافة لنقل حركة الشاحنات العابرة إلى المنافذ الحدودية، ومناطق المملكة خارج النطاق العمراني، مع اختصار زمن الرحلة بين المدن الصناعية والمنافذ الحدودية".
وقال الجاسر "يسهم المشروع في استكمال ربط عدد من الطرق الرئيسية بالمنطقة (طريق الظهران الجبيل وطريق أبو حدرية وطريق الرياض الدمام السريع وطريق الظهران بقيق الأحساء وطريق الهفوف سلوى)، وتنمية الحركة السياحية لشاطئ العقير التاريخي وشاطئ نصف القمر، بالإضافة إلى مساهمة المشروع في رفع تصنيف المملكة في مؤشر الأداء اللوجستي لتكون ضمن أفضل 10 دول على مستوى العالم".
