أعلنت الجمعية العامة للمكتب الدولي للمعارض لتنظيم إكسبو 2030، المعرض الأكبر على مستوى العالم، عن فوز الرياض باستضافة المعرض الدولي.
وعمّت الفرحة وفد المملكة في حفل الإعلان عن الاستضافة، إذ أبدى الأعضاء سعادة كبيرة بعد إعلان فوز المملكة.

بلغ عدد الدول الداعمة والمؤيدة لطلب الرياض استضافة إكسبو 2030، 90 دولة من أصل 170 دولة عضو في المكتب الدولي للمعارض، مما يقرب السعودية من الفوز باستضافة المعرض مع منافسة ضعيفة محتملة من مدينة بوسان الكورية الجنوبية.
وقدمت السعودية في 29 أكتوبر 2021، طلبها استضافة المعرض وذلك في خطاب من صاحب السمو الملكي الأمير محمد بن سلمان بن عبد العزيز ولي العهد رئيس مجلس الوزراء رئيس مجلس إدارة الهيئة الملكية لمدينة الرياض -حفظه الله-، إلى الأمين العام للمكتب الدولي للمعارض ديميتري كركنتزس.

عُقدت أول نسخة لمعرض إكسبو الدولي منتصف القرن الـ19، بالتحديد في 1851 في العاصمة البريطانية لندن، لعرض أهم الابتكارات التي رسمت ملامح العالم، وما أنتجته الثورة الصناعية في ذلك الوقت، وهي فعالية كانت تقام حينها كلما سنحت الفرصة لذلك.
الدول المتنافسةأعلن المكتب الدولي للمعارض ومقره العاصمة الفرنسية باريس في 7 سبتمبر 2022، تقديم 3 دول ملفاتها الرسمية لاحتضان معرض إكسبو 2030 هذا الحدث الهام تتقدمها السعودية في العاصمة الرياض، كوريا الجنوبية في مدينة بوسان، وإيطاليا في عاصمتها روما.
وفي 21 أكتوبر 2022، اجتمعت اللجنة التنفيذية للمكتب الدولي للمعارض في 21 أكتوبر 2022 لمناقشة ملفات الترشح.

قدمت معارض "إكسبو"، عددا من الاكتشافات الصناعية لأول مرة فكانت البوابة لانتشارها، ففي نسخة باريس عام 1855 كشف المعرض عن غسالات الملابس، وفي لندن عام 1862 كُشفت أول الحواسيب الميكانيكية، وفي "إكسبو فيلادلفيا" عام 1876 عرض ألكسندر غراهام بيل أولَ هاتف في العالم، وفي "إكسبو باريس" 1889 كُشف عن جهاز الغراموفون.
وكشف في "إكسبو نيويورك" عام 1939 عن جهاز التلفزيون وفي "إكسبو سياتل" عام 1962 ظهر أول جهاز حاسوب لشركة "آي بي إم"، وفي "إكسبو اليابان" عام 1970 كشف عن الهواتف المتحركة.
ومع مرور الوقت باتت معارض "إكسبو" إحدى أهم الفعاليات العالمية، وأكبر منصة عالمية لتقديم أحدث الإنجازات والتقنيات، والترويج للتعاون الدولي في التنمية الاقتصادية والتجارة والفنون والثقافة، ونشر العلوم والتقنية ،وتتسابق إلى استضافتها الدول وتقدم أفضل ما لديها من أجل الفوز بذلك.
ولمعارض اكسبو الدولية مجالات عديدة منها "إكسبو التجاري" الذي عقدت نسخته الأخيرة في دبي وهو الأشهر بين أنواع المعرض المختلفة، التي تضم أيضا "إكسبو للبستنة" الذي تستضيفه قطر حاليا، والذي يهتم بالتقنيات في المجال الزراعي وبالبيئة، وأساليب الزراعة التي تمكّن من استصلاح الصحراء، ثم "إكسبو المدن الذكية"، وهو منصة عالمية مخصصة لمناقشة ومعالجة وحل التحديات التي تواجه مدن المستقبل.

كما دشنت السعودية للشحن مسار الرحلات المباشر من لييج في بلجيكا إلى مطار الملك فهد الدولي بالدمام، اعتبارًا من 3 أبريل، مما يرفع إجمالي الرحلات الأسبوعية التي تُسيّرها الشركة من لييج إلى 11 رحلة أسبوعيًا، الأمر الذي يعكس حضورا مميزا للشركة في القارة الأوروبية ويبرز دورها في نقل الشحنات التي تتطلب سرعة في التسليم.
